Time for a formal lesson on Nordic Walking?

Many readers have taken their initial Nordic Walking class from me. We had a great time.

If you haven’t had good training, please consider taking a workshop with ANWA – The American Nordic Walking Assn.  The have lessons all around the country. If you are in the greater SF Bay area, you’ll get linked up with me.

I teach on the beautiful shoreline trails in Palo Alto. We go out to the bay end of San Antonio Road and head out to see the birds and bees. This is just north of Shoreline Park (which is Mt View).

I like this spot. It’s flat and transitions from pavement to gravel. A great spot to practice using both the rubber tips and the steel spikes. There is usually a nice temperate breeze to keep us cool.

Be sure to wear a hat for sun protection. Although there is a toilet and water fountain, I still recommend you bring a fanny pack type water bottle holder or use a camel back. I’m a big fan of hydration.

The only hazard we encounter is from the wild geese that frequent the grassy areas near a large pond. You have to watch you step since those buggers poop everywhere. They are “protected” so the city can’t use herding dogs to keep them out. Oh well. That’s nature. I do like to hear them honk as they fly overhead.

So if you want to get in a lesson  – or a refresher – before winter hits, go to the ANWA site. I’ll have a session in November. I service the entire Bay area, so you might have a little drive. I always work with students to find a day and time that fits.

Carpe Diem!
