Like any endurance activity, in time, solo Nordic Walking may seem to get monotonous. Well, maybe boring is a better term. While Nordic Walking is a great way to just chill out and put your body on auto-pilot, sometimes you don’t want to work your mind. Just think about your day and your goals.
I have no problem with breaking up your walk with music. You can use any MP3 player. A smart phone will be the machine of choice for many. You can download songs off iTunes or just transfer you personal collection.
Create a playlist – this is all your favorites in one folder. Suggestions? Disco is perfect. The Bee Gees did many songs with a moving beat that will pick your pace up. Try to find the downbeat of the bass guitar or drums. Hit your left foot in sync.
Funk music is also good. I’m a Jimi Hendrix fan and that beat gets me moving. Don’t like music? Podcasts are fun. I like the “Tech Guy – Leo LaPorte.” He talks electronics for 2 hours. Try “reading” a book on tape.
Be careful crossing streets and be alert for bears creeping up on you!
Carpe Diem!
