A recent article by Jessie Van Amburg states that your walking speed is linked to better mobility.
A study found in Exercises and Sport Sciences Reviews, found that the walking speed of an older, able-bodied adult was a good indicator of their mobility status.
Based on existing research, the study authors proposed that older adults who walk slower than about 2.6 feet/second should be considered low mobility, while those who walk between 2.6 and 4.6 feet per second would be considered average mobility. Older adults who can walk faster than 1.4 meters per second are considered highly mobile.
This may not come as a surprise to you, but it’s another indication that while walking is good – picking up the pace would be even better. Ergo – pump those poles a bit faster.
