I like to go around a large park near my house. I live in San Jose by-the-sea, California. I love it here, having been raised in Arlington, VA. Gee, the weather reports here don’t even give the humidity numbers. (Try 90 degrees and 90%) Nor do you gag on gnats. Or swat mosquitoes. Nor step on slugs.
When I Nordic Walk, I often pass people. The funniest (to me) are women. I seem to pick up a few seconds of…. “I don’t know why he doesn’t call. I’ve pretty much had it with him.” then there’s the: “It was a blue top with darling slacks.” and “He’s so adorable. He’s only 2 and he is a very smart boy.” Bla Bla.
I also get the people who don’t realize they can get more out of their walk if they use poles. They tend to be yacking on their smart phones. People – what happened to getting away from it all?
Next are the dog people. Some will drag their poor canine on hot sidewalks, oblivious to the heat. Sure, we have thick tennies on, but sidewalks and asphalt can get really hot. Many dogs should not be on a forced march that far exceeds their capability. Got water for them? And let them rest. And I must say the custom of picking up Fido’s droppings is often overlooked. Sometimes it seems like an elephant has been on the trail. Or they pick it up, put it in a baggie (good), then leave it on the side of the trial. Gross.

Anywho – keep it up and rest assured you are doing the right thing. Check your heart rate with and without poles. You will be surprised.
