Nordic Walking is a great fitness activity. So you should dress appropriately. I don’t mean gym pants and a tank top – but loose, comfortable clothes work best. Tight jeans will restrict your movement – they may look nice but save them for the disco.
Also, a loose shirt will allow free movement as you swing the poles. A TShirt or polo shirt is great. A sun hat should be mandatory. Add a dose of sunscreen; you have to protect the skin. Remember, we pay for the sins of our youth. I used to bake to a crisp lying out for hours at Ocean City, Maryland. I had a squamous cell cut off my nose a few years ago. A process called MOHS pulled in the divot.
Now to your feet. I prefer a good pair of tennis shoes. NOT the $9.99 models you can find at the Big Kahuna stores. Your feet are where the rubber meets the road. You can’t afford to get sore feet. Me? I love the ASICS Kayana model. Cost? $160 – yikes! But my feet are worth it. You don;t need to spend that much! They are for big guys. I’m only 185 lbs, and 6’2” so I’m not a bona fide Big and Tall, but the cush in ASICS is like a pillow.
Since you asked, I also toss out the thin insoles and put in my favorite – Cadence. Great stability and more cush. Athletic socks to complete the picture. Now you’re all set to go. Get your water bottle holster and hit the streets.
By the way, I only mention brands when I truly endorse them. So . . . no funny business going on here.
