Nordic Walking starting position explanied: and off you go!

Before you jump into Nordic Walking, some advice may help you do it correctly. To get the get the most out of it, a basic starting position will get you going.

Starting position for Nordic Walking

As shown, put the pole tip near the outside of your little toe. Loosen the pole and extend it real long – loosely. OK, now slowly tap it down until you get about a 90 degree angle with your elbow. The elbow should be near your body during all this.

Then slowly reach down and tighten the pole. You may have the twist lock or the newer Speed Lock.  Next make the other pole the same.  Now you are ready to align your rubber tips so they lay flat when the poles are behind you. They will remain behind you forever.

This starting position is not religion. try it. If you want – experiment with shorter or longer. What matters is that yo feel comfortable and are pushing the pole into the ground with every step.  Pretty simple.

All for now…I have to meet friends for a Nordic Walking session. Where’s the snow, Rick?  <<Bug off!>>
