Nordic Walking and weight loss

The Nordic Walking Fitness benefits are measurable. I need to caution you though. Don’t expect the claims of 20% average calorie burn if you eat recklessly.

The equation is simple>

If  Output > Input = weight is lost.

I love sub sandwiches at my local deli. Ah, Italian with all those meats. I looked at their nutrition sheet today. My regular sandwich is 800 calories. OK, high, but not off the scale. The fat was in the high double digits but the sodium floored me – 3100 mg. Holy cow – the daily recommended is 2100!  Yikes.

Surprisingly, plain white rolls have less of the bad numbers than sourdough, wheat or French.

I only eat them once a month and life’s too short to pass up this kind of oral pleasure. But that means more time on the poles to try and break even (yeah, right). Cut down on the carbs, sugars and saturated fats.  I’m not a nutritionist. Just a guy that knows the equation.

Nordic Walking is not an intensity related activity – rather it’s consistency. It can easily be done in the rain or even snow. The poles come with the steel spikes that will grip into any surface. Dress appropriately and you’ll be fine.

As we enter winter (boo) we cannot put our bodies on break until spring. Get out and walk. Find a buddy and click off those steps. My wife uses a fit bit that motivates her to get in her thousands of steps each day.
