As a Nordic Walker, it’s good to know more about the activity. We mentioned the availability of books. There are also explanatory YouTubes. But I’d like to suggest joining the American Nordic Walking Assn. This is a great source of ongoing education.
Headquartered in Santa Monica, CA, ANWA is led by Bernd Zimmerman. He is one of the most enthusiastic promoters of Nordic Walking. ANWA provides Workshops and Certification programs for the “sport.”
Years ago, I went down to SoCal to take the Instructor class. I refined my own technique and developed a comfortable teaching style. When I teach now, I use the tips I picked up to make learning the proper techniques of Nordic Walking enjoyable and productive.
Many people who “get into” Nordic Walking want to spread the word to others by being an instructor themselves. ANWA provides the training and tools to progress from a being a walker to advanced instructor. Sessions are held nationwide.
I conduct the events in the San Francisco Bay area. I use the Los Gatos Creek Trail as a fun environment to learn. The paved, quiet shaded path provides a shaded walk for all. We even see ducks swimming along with us. We finish with a nice lunch in the historic town.
My next formal Nordic Walking Guide Workshop for the San Francisco, area is scheduled for October 11, but I also do private sessions. See my CONTACT page to set up a session. Hourly rates are low and I provide loaner poles for up to 10 people.
