You’ll often hear fitness trainers talk about being in the “Zone.” What are the talking about? This chart explains things. Click it to enlarge for better readability.
It shows your heart rate on the vertical axis and your age horizontally. In the middle you see the description of just where you body is at given heart rates. You’ll need to know your maximum calculated hear rate. Simply take 220-your age. Easy. But remember, everyone is different.
Now find your age (I won’t tell). Then see where you fit on the chart based on your usual heart rate. Let’s say you are 50 and you normally do aerobics at about a 60-70% of your maximum pulse. This is about 100-120 beats per minute. You can see that you are, therefore, in the “Fitness & Fat burning” zone.
Pump it up a bit and you’ll enter the Cardio Vascular benefit zone. That is good too! You need to decide what your goal is. Most will select the lower to get excess weight off. You only have go remember to stay at 100-120 beats per minute.
This is where Nordic Walking comes in. I guarantee that if you walk at the 97 beats level, you will shoot up into the fat burring zone. Why? By getting your upper body muscles involved, you heart needs to pump more blood, thus the pulse goes up.
